Free for all Friday

Today was Friday and I am feeling a bit better. I still have a cough,  but I am hanging in there.  Free for all Friday happens everyday at the radio station in which every hour when the announcers say people should call, the 10th caller wins the prize of the day this happens once every hour until 6pm. It was so fun to see the phone light up as soon as they say call in.  About an hour into my day my on-site supervisor gave me a bigf task to do.  She explained to me the way the underwriting  works with the station and had me help send out letters and bills to the sponsors of the station and the advertisers. After the huge project which took me about an hour and 45 mins I just hung out for the rest of the day. The first week I did learn a lot. I a excited about next week and the weeks that are going to follow. Happy memorial day! 5/28

Sore Throat Thursday

Today was a struggle to get through because I had a sore throat and I seriously didn't feel well. I helped out with office tasks. My on-site supervisor wasn't there because she works from home on Thursdays, but I got to help Luisa with things and continued to help with answering phones. Luisa felt bad for me because it was such a slow week for me and not a good impression for me, but I didn't mind because I was sick. Today was slow again. 5/27

Hump day- Day three.

So today was Wednesday and I am sick. I don't know where I got this cold, but I am feeling awful and so the lesson I learned today was rain or shine, through sickness and health if there is a job to get done, you have to do it. Today was slow. Luisa warned me about these days.  The busiest days are usually Monday and Friday.  Before I forget to write this, I must say that I love being at this internship because I am learning things about myself, where I want me life to go, and my faith in God is growing more than ever. I love it here and is really praying that my Father God will allow this internship to turn into a job opportunity.  Today people just basically floated around the building and I was introduces to new people. Everyone is really friendly and fun. Since things were slow today, we sat around and talked watched videos on the internet and hung out.  The day couldn't go quicker for me though cause I felt awful. I went to the bank with Luisa again and got soup at the supermarket. That was fun because we go to talk a lot more and got to know each other. As the day ended, I didn't feel to well. So I just headed home. 5/26

Day two- w/o Luisa

Ok well my second day was nerve wrecking because the secretary (Luisa) wasn't there and I had to help out and learn her duties. Today taught me that it takes A LOT to run a radio station. I answered the phones today and answers people questions and directed them to the right people (like Luisa showed me the day before), then my on-site supervisor Karen showed me the basic things that Luisa usually does for the station. She showed my how the mail was sorted and how the checks were divided and calculated. The reason why the checks are so important is because the joy f is a listener supported radio station and relies on the checks that are given to the station to carry on with their music.  After calculating the checks, I sat right back down and started browsing the website and answering the phone. Karen, the on-site supervisor, then informed me of my schedule for the rest of the summer. I know what you are thinking, it is an internship that I got stuck at a desk with, but no that isn't so.  This week I am observing the administrative stuff and the rest of the time it is all learning about radio production.  This day was a bit drawn out, but went by fast at the end because I began to help Mary, the programming director, with tasks. At the end of the day I learned that I shouldn't have been scared because Luisa wasn't there, everything worked out fine. 5/25

The first day......

Today was an interesting day. It was a day of many firsts. I drove alone for the first time, it was the first day of my internship, and my first time being really confident in myself. As for being at the internship, today was a really slow day. The first thing I did was check in with my on site supervisor and she got me settled right away. She placed me at a desk that will be mine until the end of the summer. She then got the tech guys to get my email and internet access set up. After that, she told e to get comfortable with the stations website so if anyone called with answers I would know how to navigate the website. After an hour of looking at the events, the secretary  was nice enough to bring me to the bank with her and then to lunch. We had a really great conversation about her and the station and the people that work there.  When I got back to the  office I just shadowed the secretary and then it was time to head out. My first day was slow, but still delightful. 5/24
